A pain-free back starts with a good night's sleep
Low back pain is a common issue in adults. Do you suffer from it too? There’s a way out! A quality mattress that is adapted to your sleep position is a must and can bring a lot of relief.
There is no such thing as the 'best mattress for back pain'. Choosing a mattress is a personal decision and depends on what you find most comfortable. The question is not only whether you need a harder or softer mattress. Several factors are important. In addition to flexibility and resilience, temperature regulation and drainage of moisture must also be taken into account.
We will look for the mattress that best meets your needs and expectations.
With this in mind, we advise you not to buy a mattress online. Despite the extensive information that can be found on many sites, you miss an important factor when you buy a mattress online. You don't know what the mattress feels like when you actually lie on it. In our spacious shop you can test each mattress and, thanks to the targeted questions from our experts, you will quickly know what to look out for. And if you spend a night at Het Testnest, our sleep studio where you can test our beds, you will immediately know what the impact of the mattress is on your sensitive back.
Which material is best for my back?
The material your mattress consists of is ultimately less relevant. The most important thing is that it feels comfortable and that you take into account the four following key factors when choosing a mattress:
- Sleep position: do you sleep on your stomach, side or back?
- Comfort: do you prefer a soft, medium firm or firm feel?
- Pressure-point relief: are some areas of your body extra sensitive (e.g. your shoulders)?
- Temperature: do you easily sweat or feel cold?
We often compare our quality mattresses at De Nachtwacht with top brands of shoes:
- High-quality materials: Bonnell springs, pocket springs, latex, memory foam, Geltex…
- Long lifespan
- Suitable for most people
Some people need shoes with orthotics, either because they have specific problems or preventively because they put a heavy strain on their bodies. A full day at a desk, for example, puts a lot of strain on the back...
Well, this comparison applies perfectly to the Equilli brand: people with back and neck problems want a mattress tailored to their body and sleep position.
Ergonomic mattress by Equilli
The Equilli mattress was developed at the Biomechanics department of KU Leuven in collaboration with experts from the Gasthuisberg back centre and the Antwerp Sleep Clinic.
The mattress is made up of various modules, which are chosen in such a way that your spine is perfectly supported in specific areas, and it gets the softness it needs in others. This allows your muscles and intervertebral discs to recover optimally.
