Our 7 tips for a cool night's sleep!
It’s going to be a hot summer! Now that the temperatures are soaring, it's worth checking out our tips and products that can make your night a little more bearable. Keen on a refreshing sleep - quite literally? Then read on to discover our top tips:
A cool sleep this summer
1. Go for crisp and cool bedding
Especially in summer, you should avoid bed textiles made from synthetic materials. A cotton or linen duvet cover is a better idea. The same of course also applies to your nightwear. These natural materials are breathable and therefore help to easily drain body heat. Linen also absorbs moisture very well and easily releases it back into the air, keeping your duvet cover dry and fresh to the touch.
In fact, many people choose to sleep with a sheet only during the hottest nights!
Tip: put your sheets in a bag in the freezer an hour before bedtime. Take them out of the freezer just before you go to sleep. The fresh feeling will help you fall asleep quickly.
2. A cool sleep with the SmartSleeve mattress and pillow protector
Thanks to the three-dimensional cross structure, a ventilating layer of air is created in the mattress and pillow covers by SmartSleeve. This keeps the air underneath the body moving and allows the absorbed moisture to evaporate.

Tip: fill a hot water bottle and put it in the fridge. Place it in your bed just before you go to sleep. This will keep your bed nice and fresh for a few hours.
3. Choose a cool duvet
We offer a selection of duvets made from various materials that are not too warm, but are still pleasant when the nights become a bit cooler. Once again, avoid synthetic materials but go for a summer down or a bamboo duvet, for example. Bamboo feels very cool and soft, it is temperature-regulating and breathable. This makes it the ideal duvet for tropical temperatures.

4. Sleep on a cool mattress
When choosing a mattress, keep in mind that a large part of the heat generated while you sleep comes from the mattress insulation. Synthetic materials will feel more damp than natural materials. Foam and latex mattresses ventilate less than a good pocket spring mattress. It is best to only use natural materials directly on the pocket springs, and also Talalay latex. The latter has a very open structure and therefore ventilates much better than ordinary latex and cold foam. The best mattresses on the market generally always consist of these two materials as a covering layer.
Also bear in mind that a mattress topper feels warmer than an ordinary mattress. After all, you sink in a little deeper, which means that the heat cannot escape properly.

5. Close your curtains or roller shutters
Try to keep the sun out as much as possible during the day. How? By keeping the roller shutters and curtains closed, especially those in the bedroom. When the weather outside is a bit chilly (in the early morning or evening) and dry, you can leave the window open to ventilate the room. That also allows the walls to absorb some of the cold and it keeps the house cool for longer.
6. No electronics
Checking your e-mails or social media just before bedtime is not recommended (click here to find out why). Especially with these temperatures it is best to take a break from using your mobile phone or laptop, because they give off a lot of heat and of course we want to avoid that!
7. Cold washcloth
Our final tip? Keep your head cool, quite literally! Leave a wet facecloth in the freezer and put it on your forehead or neck when you go to sleep.
